White Mirror is officially out today. Where the TV show Black Mirror is a collection of stories about what’s wrong with our world, White Mirror is stories about what our world could be.
not officially, but I'm hoping people can get a sense of if it's worth it from the reading questions & discussion. Question 2 for example works as a standalone question, and so does 4.
I'm taking a bit of inspiration from the youtube channel Esoterica (https://www.youtube.com/@TheEsotericaChannel) who is a professor who recently lost his job, and decided to just teach his class on youtube instead, with patreon support. He references textbooks which I don't have but have found the lectures and discussion very useful anyway.
yes Logan asked the same thing on twitter (https://x.com/LoganJensen1/status/1951456672477749615). I'm not planning on running a specific group. I think if there are enough people one may emerge. Or if the questions I put together are interested enough we could do a one off session and go from there
I think a big part of the value here is that we'll all look at each other's writeups. Like all I need is one person to write an answer to the question(s), and then I'll mention it/review it in the next week, and then if someone disagrees they can comment/write their own version, and we all learn, and also cross pollinate our substacks (so it's kind of like writing an essay for a competition vs writing solo, in the former you know at least someone will look at it and review it)
I'm putting my responses up here: https://natedileas.com/white-mirror. I'm not really much of a writer, so I'm leaning towards publishing unfinished thoughts rather than not getting everything out the door. I think this is making me realize how much of a natural pessimist I am! Thanks for the book and the opportunity to think about it deeply in public.
this is very exciting!!! I also DEEPLY appreciate your honest reaction (especially the part about "I expected more WHITE from WHITE mirror"). I'm excited to dig in & respond
(I've also never heard of the WTC epilogues, excited to peek into that)
(I also love the raw HTML blog, highly refreshing 💜)
Just found! Am i too late to accept your offer of a free copy of White Mirror? :) Sounds intriguing
will DM you!
I'd love to take you up on the offer! Huge Black Mirror fan and love to prophetise about a digital future that's less harmful.
heck yeah, DMed!!
I’d love to take you up on the offer! I could use an ebook in epub or kindle mini format
I love this idea. Book purchased
I might be interested. But is want to read a preview of one story first. Is there a place to do that?

I'm familiar with that channel, good stuff.
OK, I thought about it, and here's how I would totally buy in-- a reading group (more open then the way you are doing it top down)
if I knew I would meet like-minded people, and we had a whatsapp chat with a set reading schedule, I'd likely buy in. That's worth $25

Can I take you up on the book offer? It's been a while since I've written much but this seems interesting and important.
yes! Just need either your info to buy it for you or a way to transfer money to you (can do USDC, paypal, venmo, zelle, etc). Will DM you
