Happy Friday! Last week I announced a “White Mirror” reading guide series, because I want people to read it along with me & see if we have the same shared understanding of these ideas around “the best possible future(s) for humanity”
"if we ALL want a better system, and we all know that we want it, then we could just make it happen. All influencers feel crushed by the currents of the algorithm pushing them in directions they don’t want to go, but that current is made up of our attention."
I encounter this same problem every time I tell people the right way to vote. They think that their decision doesn't matter, because of the tide of the aggregate, but they don't realize their decisions make up the aggregate, and every little change changes the tide a tiny bit.
This is why I am so obsessed with *visualizing* our aggregate behavior! Do you remember that little green - red tool I made that etymologynerd first made a video about? This is tangible proof that I want everyone to experience, if we can just get everyone to think about how their use of language is a "vote". Language changes all the time. We always get a vote
people feel like language is imposed on them but they can just decide to use new words & concepts if they're useful with their friends. And it will spread beyond that if it's useful
> it takes you on a kaleidoscopic quest through dozens of potential futures in search of truths that illuminate who we really are, and who we are becoming."
